Robs parents have a house on Martha’s Vineyard and it quickly became our favorite place to spend all of our free time both in the summer and during the off-season. We knew that although a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard would be a dream come true, it wouldn’t have worked logistically for us and our families who were traveling long distances. Rob and I had been to Newport a number of times and every time we went we would always talk about how it reminded us of Martha’s Vineyard – the quaint downtown, the ocean being visible at almost all times, and the awesome restaurants. Once we got into the wedding planning process, we were set on a Newport wedding. I had researched a few venues and Rob and I took a weekend to visit the places on our list. As soon as we walked into OceanCliff and saw the panoramic view of the water, we knew we had to have our wedding there.
We wanted to incorporate as many nautical and vineyard touches as we could throughout the wedding. We had cookies made to resemble the Vineyard Vines whale, our table names were locations on Martha’s Vineyard, and we had personalized oars for our guests to sign. My bridesmaids had their bouquets wrapped in navy and white striped ribbon and Rob and the groomsmen had navy and white monkey fist knots for their cuff links.
Some of our favorite touches at the reception were the wedding pictures displayed on the mantle of our parents and grandparents, the table number which were names of cities we’ve visited, and our dessert display which consisted of cupcakes, cannolis (I am 100% Italian so cannolis were a must have), and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. We hope you enjoy our Newport Wedding!”
