Caleb and I (Claire) met in January 2008 during my freshman year at Roger Williams University. Caleb was roommates with one of my best friends from high school who was just returning from his study abroad session in Italy and invited me over to a party. As soon as I walked into their apartment, I saw Caleb for the first time and he had the most captivating smile. We didn’t talk that night besides being introduced to one another, but after I got home from the party, I called my mom and told her that I had met the guy I was going to marry. After that night, we started talking and developed an incredible relationship full of Boston Bruins games, Big Macs and Nantucket beach days. Six years later, Caleb proposed at the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown on a beautiful February day.
When we started planning our wedding, Caleb and I knew that we wanted a venue that had a connection to our history. Mount Hope Farm had been a place where our families had stayed during homecoming weekends and graduations while we were at school, and we had shared wonderful memories there. As soon as we walked down to the Cove Cabin we knew that was where we wanted to exchange our vows and celebrate with our friends and family. Between Mount Hope’s incredible event coordinator, Lynell, and all of the vendors I chose, I knew that we were in good hands and that the details would all come together to create a beautiful night!
I wanted many of the smaller details to be handmade, so I made the bar signs, straw tags and sign that was on our sweetheart table (there were a lot of snow days that winter) and a close friend and incredible calligrapher did our invitations, seating cards and table numbers. We love lobsters, lighthouses and anything coastal – so we wanted to base the decor around those images! Our favors were lobster lollipops, our seating cards were arranged on a lobster trap and our table numbers were watercolor lighthouses.
Our wedding day went by so quickly but Caleb and I made sure to stop a few times together throughout the night and soak in everything around us. Now a year and a half later, we’re able to look back on our photos and relive every emotion and detail we missed!
