Wedding registry guides are cluttered with items like serving dishes, sheets, and pots and pans. All totally useful items, they are the no-brainer choices. Every couple is capable of crafting the perfect registry with a mix of practical and fun items. The thing is, there are always items that you don’t realize you need until after the wedding, sometimes even years later! We’ve pulled together our top items that you just have to put on your registry. They are specific, but for all the best reasons.
Bowl with a Handle – A mixing bowl with a handle makes creating works of edible art easy! Ok, maybe not really, but it sure makes pouring brownie batter a heck of a lot easier! It’s always a challenge to hold a slippery round bowl with one hand and scrape the bowl with the other, all while not dropping anything everywhere. So happy someone finally came up with a solution! We found this one on for $25! Plus, it comes with a lid!
Deep Enamel Dutch Oven – Dutch ovens are pretty much universally loved. Going from stovetop to oven with ease, they can cook whatever you want. A deep dutch oven keeps splatters in the dish and not on you. A dish with an enamel finish over the classic cast iron doesn’t require seasoning (like regular cast iron) and can be washed with soap (also unline regular cast iron). We’re crushing on this beautiful Marsielle blue LaCreuset Deep 6 1/2 Qt Dutch Oven.
Stand Mixer – This just might become the most used piece of equipment in your kitchen. A good stand mixer can be used for mashed potatoes, cake batter, guacamole, and whatever else you can think of. KitchenAid creates the ultimate stand mixer. Our favorite is the Artisan Series 5-Quart Tilt Head mixer that comes in 43 colors. Plus, they sell special attachments than utilizing the strong motor in your mixer turning the machine into a sausage stuffer, ice cream maker, and even a cheese grater!
A Set of Small Spatulas – Whether it’s scraping out the inside of a frosting container, can of soup, or getting the corners of a cream cheese wrapper, mini spatulas are SO helpful! Bed Bath and Beyond has a set of 8 for under $10!
Multiple Brownie/Casserole Dishes – You’d think to have 1 was enough, but what if you want to make brownies and a main entree? Or brownies and rice crispy treats? Having multiples ensures that your kitchen stays well equipped while you’re making dinner and dessert! Crate and Barrel makes a crisp white set of 3 dishes for under $50!
Two sets of measuring cups and spoons – Along the same line of logic as the items above, when baking or cooking, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll need to measure two different items in the same measurement. Avoid having to wash dishes while mixing and just get two sets of measurements! These copper options from Williams Sonoma are BEAUTIFUL!
Sturdy Travel Mugs that Keep Drinks hot, but not too hot… – Finding the right travel mug is a delicate balance of ensuring that the container keeps your beverage hot/cold, but also that it doesn’t overheat your drink leaving that metallic burned taste. Thermos makes a few reasonably priced options just pick the size, shape, and color that’s right for you.
Programmable Crock Pot – Crock Pots have come a long way from the days of our mothers. They come in all sizes, we’d suggest going with a medium or large one, and now there are even ones that you can program to turn on at a specific time. Whether it’s overnight oats, Crock Pot French Toast (yes, that’s a thing) or a tasty weekday dinner, getting to set it and forget it comes in CLUTCH on busy days. The Crock-Pot 8-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker is big enough for dips, dinner, and desserts!
Wall Mounted Laser Level – Make sure all your pictures are level and right where you want them with a laser level that sticks to the wall. This hands-free Ryobi Air Grip Compact Laser Level option rotates 360 degrees so you can put pictures just everywhere
A Good Can Opener – In college, the crappy $1 can openers sufficed, but why not get a state-of-the-art opener that’s easy to use, doesn’t hurt your hands, and maybe just opens the cans all by itself? We opted for this OXO Smooth Edge Can Opener manual version that has an ergonomic shape and leaves no sharp edges on either the can or the lid.
Electric Kettle – Whether you’re making the perfectly brewed cup of tea, or pouring water into your cup-o-noodles, having boiled water in just a few minutes is pretty incredible. Plus, you can flip the switch, walk away, and not have to worry about leaving the stove on. There is a HUGE range in prices for electric kettles, from $15 to $150. We actually have TWO favorites for this item. We like the Hamilton Beach Electric Kettle option that’s a subtle stainless steel and is just $25, and this mint colored KitchenAid Electric Kettle that has more of a classic kettle shape and runs about $80.
Fun and Funky Board Games – Board games aren’t just Shutes and Ladders and Clue. Amazon has a TON of hilarious adult board games like What Do You Meme?, Joking Hazard, and Cards Against Humanity.
A vacuum with a swivel head and upholstery attachments – Vacuuming is already a chore, why make it more challenging than it needs to be? The swivel head of this Dyson Ball Animal 2 Upright Vacuum makes it super easy to get into corners and under furniture. Plus, the attachment helps you keep the flat surfaces in your home dust free!
A Decent Air Mattress – Give your visiting friends a comfortable place to lay their heads. Ditch the $30 variety and get them an air bed fit for a king! The Coleman Supportrest Plus Pillowstop Double High Queen Airbed has plenty of room for two people, and the extra height helps ensure your guests dont’ end up on the ground.
Electric Drill – Use this handy item to hang your art and install shelves for the rest of your married lives. It’s one of those items that you don’t need until you really need it. We like the cordless shapes so you’re not tied to an outlet. Plus, this Dewolt Cordless Drill model comes with an extra battery, charging station, and a handy carrying case.
