Evan and Julie grew up down the street from one another. After years of being friends, Evan asked Julie out on a first date at the West Deck in downtown Newport and the rest is history.
Evan planned a proposal custom tailored to his beautiful bride-to-be. The couple frequented Fort Adams in Newport on Sunday afternoons in the summer. Bringing beach chairs, blankets, cheese, wine and of course their dog Brody. The last Sunday in August, Julie thought they were just going on another picnic when Evan got down on one knee and proposed! They walked down to the water to enjoy a beautiful moment and when they came back, their entire family was waiting for them, Brody included! They celebrated with a champagne toast and Brody was appropriately dressed for the occasion sporting a ‘Mama Said Yes’ sign. Evan planned to have everyone continue celebrations at the Mooring (another favorite local spot). What a thoughtful groom-to-be!
Evan and Julie grew up on the island, as did their parents and grandparents. It made perfect sense to get married in their favorite city. When it came time to choose a venue, the couple fell in love with Ochre Court. Evan graduated from Salve, and as an alumni, the couple was able to use the stunning building and grounds for their wedding. They interior matched their decor and the friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating staff sealed the deal. They wanted a venue on the water, and a space that was unique, timeless and could stand on its own without over-the-top decorations. Plus, the space was big enough to accommodate the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Ochre Court delivered on all accounts!
On their wedding day, the ceremony space was set up outdoors by the ocean. The isle was created from hundreds of rose petals. The ‘alter’ was defined by two large urns, all in the same floral scheme, that created a picturesque backdrop. With the couple’s new last name being Rose, the theme of the day was all things roses. During cocktail hour our guests were treated to glasses of rosé, so perfect. In lieu of favors, the couple made a donation to the American Heart Association. For a first dance, the couple danced to ‘Love of My Life’ by Sammy Kershaw. Julie heard the song for the first (and only time) at her Aunt Suzanne’s wedding. She was twelve, it was the first wedding she had ever been to, and she thought their first dance was perfect. She knew, in that moment that she would have that same song for her first dance someday.
Congrats to the happy couple! Your wedding was beautiful and Joseph Laurin Photography captured it so well!
