The Makeup behind the Magic

Now that you’ve seen all the looks from our styled shoot at Hotel Viking, it’s time for the makeup secrets. Makeup artist Lyndsay Simon created the looks and gave us the deets in a behind the scenes interview.

Leila

For Leila’s look I wanted to give her really fresh radiant skin, with a soft contoured eye. This look goes perfectly with her girly and fun dresses. I massaged Embryollisse Lait Creme and Anti-Age Re-Densifying Serum into her skin and followed with Makeup For Ever Ultra HD foundation to ever her complexion. I popped on NARS Orgasm cream blush with my fingers to the apples of her cheeks, and illuminated the high points of her face with MAC Soft and Gentle highlighter. Her eye look is softly contoured with the Viseart Matte Neutral palette and a champagne Inglot loose pigment. To finish her look, I applied my favorite bridal lip color, Inglot #63 lip paint, a gorgeous combination of a lipstick and a gloss, for a creamy pop of pink to match her cheeks. For her second look, her dress was more simplistic, so I went with a rose-toned lipstick to warm up her look.

Joanna

Joanna’s first dress has a very bohemian feel, and I wanted to bring that relaxed essence into her makeup while still bringing fourth the glamour aspect that she loves. Her skin is more on the matte side with some light contouring to bring out her gorgeous cheekbones. I always use a cream foundation one to two shades darker and cooler than the skin to mimic the shade of natural shadows on the face. I rimmed Joanna’s eyes with Inglot #77 black gel liner to define her eyes and smoked it out with some matte brown shades with a pop of bronze pigment on her lid. I love the sex appeal the smokey eye gave to the look, and so did she! We finished the look off with a rosy matte lip and cheek to pull the whole look together.

Sarah

Sarah’s first dress had a vintage-feel to it. I gave her a very sleek winged liner to bring the retro glamour into her makeup. I placed a cream colored eyeliner into her lower water-line to brighten her eyes up, which is one of my favorite tricks to make the eyes look bigger. To add more definition to her eyebrows, I carefully drew individual hairs into her brow with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz is Medium Brown for a very natural way to add fullness to the arches. With her first dress, I lined and filled her lips in with Cherry lipliner from MAC and powdered over a tissue to keep from smudging or kissing off. For her second dress, a very detailed pink and cream gown, I applied a glossy, cool-toned pink Lip Paint from Ingot. It isn’t a typical bridal color, but the dress had so much character, I had to add a little more sass into her makeup look.

Sweet and Sassy – The Patterned Pink Gown

First of all, let’s just talk about this gown. First of all, it’s PINK! Second, it has this crazy full skirt and makes the best swooshing noise. This dress was by far the favorite from our styled shoot at Hotel Viking earlier this month. We paired this statement dress with a lots of pearls, a sweet little pony tail and a sassy cat eye. Stunning.

The Snow Queen

I call this dress the snow queen dress. Covered from head to toe in beaded lace (yes that’s lace with tens of thousands of beads sewn overtop) tulle and everything that sparkles, this dress is fit for the snow queen herself. Not the girl with a heart like ice but the girl that wants to impress her guests and knows how to do it. When pared with this one-of-a-kind Pricilla of Boston faux fur coat, this dress goes from WOW to HOLY SMOKES! Would you wear this crystal beaded stunner? Tell us why or why not in the comments!

Meet the lovely Leila. The second she saw this soft pink gown, she started squealing. The layers of pink tulle make the ballgown look soft and light as air. The train feels grand but still playful. We played up the innocent feel with a ballerina bun and some sparkling bling. As you can see in these pictures, the gown was not only beautiful to look at, but fun to wear! Meet the lovely Joanna. She is rocking this sexy boho lace gown. For this look we wanted something easy, slightly casual but still totally sexy. I think we nailed it. This dress works perfectly with the cathedral veil, the birdcage veil, and even the headdress. It’s magical! Everything works, everything looks good. Would you rock this lace curve hugger? The illusion neckline, the sweet lace, the sexy back, the strands of pearls that hang from the shoulders, the hollywood worthy train, I just can’t get over this wedding dress. It’s simply stunning on. Sarah, our beautiful model said she felt like a movie star. Can you blame her?!

Styled Shoot Part 1: The Set Up

Last weekend we held our first styled shoot. Thank to the generous collaboration of some beautiful vendors, everything came together perfectly. What girl doesn’t want to play dress up in a gorgeous wedding dress?

We started the day with 3 models, 7 dresses, a dozen pairs of shoes, bouquets, and jewelry; the full shabang. After hours of dress changes and flying hairspray, we came away with 6 polished looks. Over the next few weeks we’re going to debut the outfits. There’s inspiration for every bride, something boho, something pink, something retro, something classic, some that are pure fun! It’s that time of year again, when Newport Wedding Magazine gets released. I am blessed to not only have my wedding featured in the 2016 issue, but I have a full page article on the inside back cover!

Grab a copy at a local newsstand location and turn to page 54 for a spread on my May wedding at the Hotel Viking, and page 96 for an article by yours truly! Going from a planning-crazed fiancé to a wife is just the beginning of the newly wed fun.

Must Have Shots for Fall Engagement Pictures

You know how candlelight looks good on everyone? Fall is the same way. The cozy sweaters and warm color tones are flattering on all. Fall engagement sessions are for bright red leaves and gorgeous golden hour pics where everyone’s happy and comfy.
