Reception Venue: Glen Manor

Like something out of a modern fairytale, Glen Manor House is every princess’s dream come true. With it’s gilded age glamour inside and sweeping views of the ocean outside, wherever you are there’s a view that can’t be beat. Ceremonies can be held outside on the lawn overlooking the water, in the manicured garden on the side of the property, or inside in one of the beautiful rooms. It’s like something out of a fairy tale. A bit smaller and more intimate than the Newport mansions, and less known, Glen Manor is the perfect venue for a one-of-a-kind couple. Located on a good piece of land in Portsmouth just a few miles away from the hubbub of Newport, there’s no chance of foot traffic disrupting pictures of a ceremony.

In the early 1900s Glen Manor was built as a private home. in 1959 it was sold to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart and turned into a school for children. In the 1970s the property was sold to the city of Portsmouth and restored to its original glory. Today the property is used as an event space.

Whether you like it for the history, the architecture, or the location, you can’t go wrong with Glen Manor. Fit for royalty, the couple that get’s married here is sure to start their lives together on the right foot.

Take an afternoon and play around with your hair, see what you can come up with. You never know till you try!

How to Decorate your Ceremony Space on a Budget

Couples often feel overwhelmed when it comes to decorating the ceremony space. It can sometimes feel like a waste of money to decorate a space you’ll only use for an hour at most. Never fear, there are plenty of beautiful ways you can decorate your ceremony space and still stay on budget. These tips show how some of our favorite ceremony tips can make a big impact for guest without making a big impact on the checkbook.

Focus on where it counts. Instead of decorating every chair, do the chairs on the aisle.

Keep it simple and let the space speak for itself. After all, guests are there to see you!

Focus on the aisle as the focal point.

Instead of costly flowers, us a cost effective bud like baby’s breath.

Try forsaking the flowers all together! Try these fun and playful

If florals and aisles aren’t your decor of choice, try something… lighter that’s sure to bloc no one’s view.

On the high fling note, try something up up and out of the way! These draping designs makes quite a statement while staying simple and elegant.

What about a monogram or sign? Simple, easy, and something you can use again!

Make the decor something you can use again whether in the reception space maybe as a centerpiece, or at home as a special decoration.

Above all, remember to have fun and enjoy being married. It’s your wedding day! 🙂

Roaring 20s weddings are all the rage. It’s fun, it’s vintage, and it lets everyone feel like they’re playing dress up for a day. The original Great Gatsby movie (1974) was shot in part at Marble House and Rosecliff right here in Newport.
