The Best Wedding Cake Alternatives

Over the years wedding cake has gotten a bad reputation as being dry and tasteless. Sometimes beautiful cakes take so long to make, they don’t taste as great as couples expect. We sat down with our friends at Russell Morin Catering and Events to learn about dessert trends for weddings. What we learned… what delicious!

Many modern brides and grooms opt against the traditional wedding. Some choose to have dessert alternatives and some have no cake at all. For a fun alternative to the traditional white or red velvet cake, Russell Morin suggest trying a house made “naked” funfetti cakes. Not into cake at all? Try gelato bars and passed coffee frappes with mini mocha donuts. Your wedding dessert should be more than a stogey tradition, it should be tasty and packed with personality. Get crazy with it! With trusted vendors like Russell Morin in tow,  anything is possible.

Do you like peanut butter cups? Tell your caterer or baker and see what they can come up with. Love lavender but hate purple? See if your baker can do some flavor infusing minus the lavender color. The best part about working with a great vendor is that couples get to use their imagination and let the professionals do all the work! You’ll be surprised just how far your imagination and your vendors experience can get you. Take a look at these amazing creations from Russell Morin and get your creative juices flowing!

In addition to satisfying their customers, Russell Morin Catering and Events has always been about giving back to the communities they serve. They’ve recently partnered with local non-profit, Edesia, to launch a philanthropic initiative, “Saving Lives is a Piece of Cake”. Edesia is a non-profit organization dedicated to their mission to treat and prevent malnutrition in the world’s most vulnerable populations. The initiative has the potential to save the lives of as many as 400 malnourished children around the world. Russell Morin Catering and Events will be donating a portion of every dessert purchased by their clients to Edesia. With catering over 350+ events a year, the estimated annual donation to Edesia could amount to over $15,000.
